Repentance
This week I had the privilege to get to go to the Freed Hardeman lectureships for a couple of days. I heard many good lectures, but one of the best was one about habitual sin. It got me to thinking about TRUE repentance.
I have been really enjoying some of C.S. Lewis quotes lately. Here is one to get us thinking. “As long as he doesn't convert it into action, it does not matter how much a man thinks about his repentance.” I think sometimes we can get the dangerous mindset that repentance is our safety net and will be there if we just say a prayer. It’s not there for us to abuse. We have to have a willing heart to serve God.
1st Chronicles 28:9 says ““As for you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands the intention of every thought. If you seek Him, He will be found by you, but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever.”
God knows our intent. We can be the “perfect” Christian on the outside, but do we really have the willingness to purify our heart and mind?
Let’s keep a willing mindset to learn, grow, and change.
